I was briefly the Acting Commanding Officer of the Afghan National Army Special Operations Advisory Group (ANASOAG). ANASOAG was an elite advisory unit consisting of approximately 65 military personnel. The unit was composed mainly of US Army Green Berets and US Navy Seals, but it also had a detachment of Canadian Special Operations Forces (CANSOF) soldiers making it a rarity, i.e., a combined Canadian-US military unit. I was one of the few US Army officers to command a combined Canadian-US military unit.
